ActiveLife: Nature Therapy

Programme

Month 1

Gardening

Seed sowing and growing. We’ll sow seeds to take some home, and bring some back at later date to plant in the gardens. See what’s growing, and tend to any weeding and watering.

Ecotherapy

Guided meditation, yoga warm-up, then a birthday celebration! We’ll find a plant that needs celebrating - however that presents itself (first bloom, first leaf, first sprout from the earth). We will record this in provided nature journals.

Sensory/craft

Create a miniature spring wreath to take away for decoration or to give to a loved one.

Sketching/art

Starting with the basics! Practicing with pens, pencils and charcoal.

Month 2

Gardening

Planting out or potting on our seeds from last month. See what’s growing, and tend to any weeding and watering.

Ecotherapy

Guided meditation, yoga warm-up, followed by an introduction to sit spots and sound maps, recording our observations and reflections into our nature journals.

Sensory/craft

Hapa zome, or “flower bashing” to print colours on to white fabric – these can be displayed at the museum or taken away.

Sketching/art

We’ll have a wander and splash about with watercolours, taking inspiration from quotes about spring.

Month 3

Gardening

Planting out or potting on any seeds from previous sessions, deadheading, weeding and watering.

Ecotherapy

Guided meditation, yoga warm up before meeting up with a tree, individual to each participant, to form a better connection with nature. We’ll learn what we can about the trees, and record in a nature journal entry.

Sensory/craft

Mud printing with leaves and flowers to make a card or print.

Sketching/art

Taking inspiration from artist, Andy Goldsworthy, we will try our hand at collaborative land art. Gathering bits along the way, we can also create collages to take away to remember our experience.
