Thanks after Newcastle constituency win

The Newcastle-under-Lyme parliamentary constituency has been won by Labour's Adam Jogee.

The Newcastle-under-Lyme parliamentary constituency has been won by Adam Jogee of the Labour Party.

He polled 15,992 votes and had a majority of 5,069 for the seat which had previously been held by Conservative MP Aaron Bell, with a majority of 7,446 in 2019. The turn-out was 58.7 per cent.

The result was announced at 4.15am and afterwards Returning Officer Anthony Harold, Director of Legal & Governance at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, thanked all those involved.

He said:

Not only would I like to thank the candidates and their teams for the spirit in which this campaign has been fought in the constituency, but I also want to praise the scores of volunteers and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council staff who have so diligently staffed polling stations or worked at the count through the night.

 

A huge amount of preparation goes into making sure that everyone can vote and that each ballot is counted quickly and correctly, and these volunteers make sure that democracy can happen.”

The final result was:

  • Jennifer Leigh Hibell, Green Party, 1,851 votes;
  • Adam Jogee, Labour Party, 15,992 votes;
  • Nigel Jones, Liberal Democrats, 1,987 votes;
  • Simon John Tagg, Conservative and Unionist Party, 10,923 votes;
  • Neill Walker, Reform UK, 8,865 votes.
