By-election results declared

By-election winners in Audley and Knutton have been declared.

Two seats have been retained by the Labour Party in a double by-election for Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.

Voting took place on Thursday 7 September for two seats in Audley and Knutton, both of which were previously held by Labour councillors.

Of the 44 seats on the authority, the Conservative Party now has 25 seats and the Labour Party has 19.

The Audley ward was won by Rebekah Sioban Lewis with a majority of 294. The votes cast were:

  • Rebekah Sioban Lewis, Labour, 732 votes
  • Duran Benjamin O’Dwyer, Independent, 63 votes
  • Sally Jane Rudd, Conservative, 438 votes
  • Andrew Robert Wemyss, Liberal Democrat, 355 votes.

The Knutton ward was won by Robert Ian Moss with a majority of 54. The votes cast were:

  • Derrick Huckfield, Conservative, 99 votes
  • Aidan Mark Jenkins, Liberal Democrat, 60 votes
  • Robert Ian Moss, Labour, 153 votes.

The turnout was 24.8 per cent for Audley, compared to 33.5 per cent in 2022, and 15.9 per cent for Knutton, compared to 25 per cent in 2022.

The next full election for the Borough Council election is in 2026.
