Andrew van Buren's circus skills and magic tricks workshops are very popular with museum visitors.

Families can have a spooktacular time at Brampton Museum next week. For half-term it's pulling out all the stops with a series of fun, Halloween-themed events.

From exploring the Medieval origins of some of our favourite traditions to getting up close to fascinating creepy crawlies, the museum is offering a relaxed, safe space to enjoy the celebrations without anything being scary or overwhelming.

Magician extraordinaire Andrew van Buren returns with his popular circus skills and magic tricks workshops on Tuesday, 25 October. People can try their hand at spinning plates, juggling, hula hooping and other fun activities. The one-hour workshops, which cost £5, run from 10am to 4pm.

Snakes, spiders and a host of animals are coming to the museum on Friday, 28 October. The Unconventional Menagerie is paying a special visit at 1pm to deliver a one-hour educational session where visitors can learn about how they live, and what special skills they have, as well as choosing to hold some if they like. Admission costs £10.

The week culminates in a special medieval-themed event exploring the origins of Halloween traditions – with costumed re-enactors, craft activities and storytime – on Saturday, 29 October from 12pm to 4pm. Tickets cost £3.

All events take place indoors. More details, and booking information, is available on the Council’s website.

Cllr. Jill Waring, Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, said: “Brampton Museum is an inclusive space open to everyone. There is always something interesting to see and do and the October half-term holiday is no exception. We have an exciting range of Halloween-themed events and activities which promise to keep families entertained.”

For under 7s there is a story time and craft session on Friday, 28 October from 11am to midday and just for teenagers and adults, there are three exclusive art classes. On Tuesday, 25 October there is a spooky comic book art session and on Sunday, 29 October, pumpkin carving. There is also a special autism-friendly event on Friday, 28 October where teenagers and adults can turn their handprints into striking fantasy worlds.

The museum has teamed up with the Staffordshire Wellbeing service and Action for Children to host a well-being day for young people aged from five to 18 and their families. The drop-in session, where visitors can learn about big feelings and emotions in a fun and interactive way, takes place on Wednesday, 26 October from 10am to 3pm.

Throughout half-term there is also a Halloween trail around the museum and dressing up in costume is very welcome.

Entry to the Brampton Museum and parking are free. Adjustments can be made, such as paying for a British Sign Language interpreter, to make sure that everyone can take part. If any family would like to attend a paid event but would struggle to pay the entrance fee, the museum can provide free tickets: please contact bramptonmuseum@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk .
