Cabinet will sign-off the final accounts for the Council’s investment in Kidsgrove Sports Centre at their meeting tomorrow.

After a huge investment in the facility the significantly refurbished centre and swimming pool reopened for business in July, managed by the Community Interest Company (CIC), and has been extremely well received by the community.

The Leader of the Council, Simon Tagg, said: “I am very pleased to be able to sign-off the Council’s contribution to this project. I made it a priority for this administration to support the efforts to reopen the centre and we put the funding in place to see the project over the line.

“To see the refurbished centre, with its top-quality finishing, and the way the local community has welcomed its reopening has been great to see. I’m sure it will go from strength to strength.”

The Council’s financial investment in the centre was more than £7,755,000. This comprised Town Deal funding of £2,848,000 and Capital funding of £4,326,000.

Staffordshire County Council contributed £355,000. Sport England contributed £205,000. The Community Interest Company contributed £21,000.

Throughout the project contractors Willmott Dixon Construction provided additional ‘social value’ services free of charge. These included:

  • Nine local employment and work experience opportunities
  • Almost 30% local spending to support the area’s economy
  • Held career fairs and advice sessions with local schoolchildren
  • Transformed Red Street Communtiy Centre’s outdoor space with community volunteering

Willmott Dixon Construction produced their own social value report which can be viewed on the Council’s website, alongside the Cabinet agenda, using this link: https://tinyurl.com/2erb4jck
