Local artistic talent highlighted in new exhibition
The Open Art and Craft Exhibition, which has just opened at The Brampton Museum, is a real visual treat.
A popular group exhibition celebrating the best artistic talent in Staffordshire has opened in a brand new gallery in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The Open Art and Craft Exhibition, at The Brampton Museum, showcases a diverse and contemporary collection of locally-produced work such as paintings, drawings, prints, etchings, ceramics, sculptures, glass, photography and textiles.
Available in the Jim Wain Courtyard Gallery for the first time until Sunday, 30 October, the annual exhibition features a hand-picked selection of masterpieces submitted by professional and non-professional creatives who live, work or study in the county.
The award winners are –
- The Barracks Trust Prize: £250 – Rachel Muncy for acrylic painting “Oak Moon”
- The Belong Prize: £100 – Mark Lippett for ink drawing “Guard House”
- The Art Studio Prize: £100 worth of vouchers – Angela James for textile piece “Lament of the Lost Pubs of Burslem”
- Friends of the Museum Prize: £100 – Gillian Farr for oil painting “Favourite Things”
Cllr. Jill Waring, Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, said: “It’s great that the Open Art and Craft Exhibition – a firm favourite in the museum’s calendar for residents and visitors from further afield – has now opened in the fantastic new art gallery. The quality of the content is excellent and is testament to the value of our local creative community.
“The museum received many more submissions than they were able to accommodate and the standard of work was incredibly high. A panel of judges had the unenviable task of choosing works for inclusion as well as the prize winners – their diligence, time and support was very much appreciated.
“The museum would also like to thank the sponsors of the exhibition for their generous support in providing the prizes.”
The exhibition is open between 10am and 5pm, from Tuesday to Saturday, and on Sundays from 1.30pm to 5pm. Admission is free.
All of the works on display are available for sale and if purchased, they can be collected after the exhibition has closed.
