Popular art and craft competition open to all Staffordshire artists
Local artists are being encouraged to submit their masterpieces for possible inclusion in a popular exhibition at the Brampton Museum. There are a variety of prizes for the main winners.
Artists have the opportunity to be part of an established group exhibition set in a sparkling new gallery in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Applications are now being accepted for the Open Art and Craft competition at the redeveloped Brampton Museum.
The exhibition – a firm favourite in the museum’s calendar – celebrates the very best creative talent in Staffordshire by showcasing a hand-picked selection of masterpieces submitted by professional and non-professional artists who live, work or study in the county.
It takes place in the new Jim Wain Courtyard Gallery for the first time from Saturday, 24 September to Sunday, 30 October following extensive refurbishment work to provide a new café, gallery, retail space and activity rooms.
Artists can submit up to two pieces of 2D or 3D work, created in the last three years, on Friday, 9 and Saturday, 10 September from 11am to 4pm. There is a submission fee of £5 per item. A panel of judges will select the work which will go on display.
There are a variety of prizes for the winning entries:
- The Barracks Trust Prize: £250
- The Belong Prize: £100
- The Art Studio Prize: £100 worth of vouchers
- Friends of the Museum Prize: £100

Jill Waring, Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, said: “Our Open Art and Craft competition is a really interesting and diverse exhibition which is always popular with both local visitors and those from further afield. The excellent artwork on display promotes the artistic talents of people from Staffordshire and the value of our creative community.
“This is a really good opportunity for local artists. The Brampton Museum has just undergone an amazing transformation to attract diverse audiences and enhance experiences so it will be great to see the exhibition in a new light in the fantastic new art gallery. I would also like to thank the competition sponsors for their valued contributions.”
The exhibition is open between 10am and 5pm, from Tuesday to Saturday, and on Sundays from 1.30pm to 5pm. Admission is free.
