Additional guidance about soundproofing your home

Non-traditional window systems

Some non-traditional window systems are available which can provide some sound attenuation whilst allowing windows to be opened.

One approach is the sound lock which is connected to a window frame and lets air flow in from the sides and through the open window within the sound lock. This may be particularly suitable for refurbishment purposes.

Another approach is to use plenum windows, where there are two openers (one internally and one externally) which are positioned so that there isn`t a direct path from outside to inside. The area between the panes is typically constructed with a material which absorbs noise.
