(6 months contract initially with rolling 1 month extensions thereafter)

Grade 9 - £30,507 to £32,029 per annum, pro rata

37 hours per week

Are you looking to further your career in the field of Environmental Protection?  We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Protection Team, initially for a 6 month period.

You will provide a front line customer focused response to a broad range of pollution control issues from domestic and commercial sources, including nuisances, smoke control, industrial process regulation and local air quality management.  You will also be expected to provide an appropriate response to planning and licensing applications.  You will have experience in taking enforcement action in line with legal requirements, preparation and presentation of evidence in court, tribunals and planning appeals.  Working in partnership with external agencies to secure appropriate outcomes is also expected.  You may also be required to work in other areas of Environmental Health as the need arises.

You will be organised, diligent and flexible, with good communication skills and able to work on your own initiative.  You will have an eye for detail and be comfortable working under pressure.

You must have a BSc/MSc in Environmental Health (or equivalent).  You must also be EHORB registered and ideally, you will also either be undertaking or hold a post graduate qualification in acoustics and noise control or equivalent.  A current valid driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes is also essential.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and, as such, appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.  This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions.
