There are no scheduled local elections due to take place within Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s area until May 2022. In the meantime, on this page, you'll find notices for all vacancies and by-elections during 2019.

Maer and Whitmore Local Government By-Election

Here you will find information and guidance on the election process. 

A local government by-election will take place on Thursday 2 May 2019, to elect a councillor for the Maer and Whitmore ward

The notice of election will be published on the 26 March 2019; this will be displayed on the council website and in the reception area at Castle House.

The Notice of Poll and Situation of Polling Stations has been published today, Wednesday, 24 April 2019; and is displayed on the council website and in the reception area at Castle House.

If you are interested in becoming a candidate, please contact the elections office, for further information on 01782 742466 or 01782 742229.  Full details can also be found on the Electoral Commission website.

Nominations

If you wish to stand as a candidate in the Maer and Whitmore By-Election you must complete and submit a nomination form between the 26 March and 4 April 2019.

The Statements of Persons Nominated (the list of candidates standing at the election) will be published by 4pm on Monday 4 April.

Statutory cut-off dates, for electoral registration, postal and proxy vote applications

Electoral Registration 12 midnight on Friday 12 April 2019
Postal Vote Application 5pm on Monday 15 April 2019
Proxy Vote Application 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2019

If you are unable to get to your designated polling station on Election Day and would like to vote by post or appoint a proxy, please contact the elections office on 01782 742229.

Holditch and Chesterton Local Government By-Election

A local government by-election will take place on Thursday, 21 March 2019, to elect a councillor for the Holditch and Chesterton ward

The Notice of Election has been published today Thursday, 14 February 2019; and is displayed on the council website and in the reception area at Castle House.
