Casual Porter / Relief Caretaker

Facilities Team

(Saturdays and Weekday cover)

£8.74 per hour

The successful applicant will assist in the provision of an efficient and effective facilities management service in relation to the premises we are responsible for.  You will assist with the provision of general caretaking duties and informal security arrangements as and when required, but critically ensuring the safe lock up and alarms setting unsetting of various Council buildings (mainly Castle House).

No previous experience is necessary; however previous experience of working in caretaking, portering or a similar role would be advantageous.  Any necessary training will be provided.

You will need to demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy skills to enable you to deal with requests for information and order stocks and supplies as necessary.  

The successful applicant is required to provide emergency cover for holiday and sickness leave.  We know the nature of casual work cannot be guaranteed, however, the requirement to work may fall within the following timeframes:


  • 4 hours Split Shift, 07.30-09.30 and 16.30-18.30


  • Shift 1 – 06.45-14.15 Monday to Thursday and 06.45-13.45 on Friday 
  • Shift 2 – 14.00-21.30 Monday to Thursday and 14.00-21.00 on Friday

Kidsgrove Town Hall:                

  • Weekdays: split shift – 07.00 – 09.00 and 16.30 -18.30 Monday- Friday (May only be required to do part shifts depending on meetings).

Uniform and protective clothing will be provided as part of this role.
