An Overview of Planning

The Planning and Development Service consists of:

Planning Policy

Planning Policy is responsible for producing the Council's Local Development Framework (LDF). This will incorporate the local element of the development plan, and will contain policies which will be used in the determination of applications for planning permission.

The section also provides advice regarding individual proposals for development, from the point of view of their viability in policy terms.  The section, therefore, works closely with colleagues in housing strategy, development management and regeneration and economic development.

Development management

Development management is the process through which the Council determines whether a proposal for development should be granted planning permission, taking into account the development plan and any other material considerations.

The development management section is responsible for assessing virtually all development applications in the borough, including those for advertisement and listed building consent. Applications which involve minerals and waste development are dealt with by Staffordshire County Council.
